CHAPTER 10

Asian Magic and Western Witchcraft

Capitalism reached Asia as trade with the European powers. China was forced to trade after the so-called Opium Wars. Japan was forcibly opened for trade after many armed incursions. Some of the ‘Tiger’ economies of South East Asia were colonised; others became traders while remaining independent. All of these nations in modern times have experienced rapid growth – ‘Asian Magic’.

The so-called World Wide Web – ‘Western Witchcraft’ – is a massive unifying system of global communication that may do more than any other development to produce a truly global culture. The so-called ‘new economy’ market boom was one of the greatest on record, overall a ninebagger then, sadly followed by an old economy asset bust.
