Are war and economic progress allies or enemies? Does economic prosperity make nations more inclined to make war than to find ways of prolonging peace? What is the connection between economic fluctuations and war and peace? These are important questions rarely answered with conviction. What is far more certain is that war represents a major, recurrent challenge to the capitalist system.
