Wall Street and the Great Depression
The Wall Street crash of 1929 preceded the greatest crisis of capitalism. The crash helped turn a mild recession in the United States into a great depression throughout the capitalist world. The global crisis produced a revolution in economics led by the economist John Maynard Keynes whose theories of the causes of depression are still debated fiercely. I am far from convinced that the causes of the Great Depression have yet been ‘nailed’ by economists.
